Bold, striking colours paint the landscape for the upcoming season. Varying in hues of red, salmon pinks and effervescent aquas are just a tiny example of the colours to expect for spring and summer.
Here are my two favourites for the season so far:

LEFT : HURLEY ACE OXFORD in LNVY $60
RIGHT: SCOTCH AND SODA COLORED OXFORD IN MINT $112
These bold colours can be paired with other primary colours, or even earth tones for more of a riviera/whitstable inspired look.

The other day I hopped onto a ferry for a mini adventure and to meet the newest addition to the Plenty family - our fifth store at Uptown Centre in Victoria.
A hybrid of our Kitsilano storefront (outside with big windows) and the new Metrotown layout, the newest store was a delight to see around the corner from DavidsTea and Cupcakes. Uptown is still going through some construction, so I can't wait to come back and see what the whole outdoor mall is like when there are more neighbours!

These lamps are a customer and staff favourite - so pretty!

New Spring arrivals for both the mens and ladies sections, although there's still a sale happening - meaning an additional 25% off the last price from all Winter & Fall merch.

All of the locations have vintage cash registers and Uptown is no exception!
Be sure to stop by and say hello to our new family. Tweet me some pictures if you do - @getplenty.
If you haven't heard of NUDIE JEANS by now then you're missing out. Far from the world of glamour and catwalks, NUDIE creates jeans made for the everyday, the average joe, the people. Fueled by the traditions of denim and the characteristics of the fabric itself, NUDIE offers a way of thinking, a concept, and an undying passion for life.

Raw denim is one of the best things to come out of fashion in a long time. Raw denim means that it's just dipped in indigo and not washed after the fact. This let's you create your own distresses and rips much like the ones you see on cheaper/lower end denim.
Buying these guys is a project all in its own. You wear them 'til they are beat up from the wind, the sun, and even your own sweat. They really do tell a story of their own after some long months of continued wear. But you won't know that until you get a pair!
NUDIE THIN FINNS : Thin Finn is a slimmed down version of the 1950's carrot shaped silhouettes. Finn has a normal rise and an extra low back yoke. It's slim from the hip and tapers down to a narrow leg opening.
NUDIE SLIM JIMS : Jim has a normal rise and is straight from the hip down to the leg opening. You can spot Slim Jim by its signature two-needle side seam.
NUDIE GRIM TIMMS : Grim Tim is a straight slim fit with normal rise. It's straight from hips through thigh and parallel from the knee to the leg opening.
You can find all these fits at our Robson and Metrotown Locations!
Our last Spring Trend Alert was all about muted, pretty colours. This week, we're all about BRIGHTS! Because let's face it: springtime can't come fast enough, so we might as well start incorporating saturated hues into our wardrobe, weather-permitting or not. Take a peek at these juicy pieces from Ribbon to get you started (dropping into our stores super soon!)

1. Ribbon Jewel Short Sleeve V-neck, $30; 2. Ribbon Tri-Blend Heavenly Hoody, $84; 3. Ribbon Tessa Tank, $29; 4. Ribbon Brooklyn Dolman, $39
Grimes has become a familiar face on this blog and a front running contender for our fav new artist. So with the release of her 4th album, Visions was as anticipated as how much we enjoyed it.
This album was a clear landmark in the Montreal-based artist’s career. The inspirations on the album seem to stem from all avenues of the musical spectrum combining elements of 90’s r&b like TLC and Mariah Carrey but also experimenting with electronic influences from the likes of IDM genius Aphex Twin. The result is an album that crosses all boarders of musical sub-cultures, not leaving out any listener based on personal aesthetic or taste. It is a testament to the internet era, close knit yet physically separated sharing ideas and mixing new forms together. Vowels = Space and Time is an Enya filled, TLC melodic masterpiece. Genesis, Oblivion, Nightmusic are examples of songs enjoyable both alone listening to headphones or with friends dancing in a club. This electro pop masterpiece is all carried by Boucher’s interesting vocal range, operatic yet follows typical mega pop star-like vocals, all while almost hiding the lyrics through heavy reverb and delay, this is an album where the best part about the lyrics are not knowing what she is saying, allowing for a more personable listen, sing them out loud make them up as you go on and don’t worry if it is right or not, that is why this album is so beautiful. This marks a major step in the musicians career for 2012 and I would be extremely surprised to see Visions not nominated for the coveted Polaris Award.

February the 14th is less than a week away! Whether you're a believer in Valentine's day or not, these nails are fit for any occasion.
Butter London Nail Fertilizer
Essie Fishnet Stockings
OPI Alpine Snow
Color Club Black Striper
Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat
Start by painting your protective base coat (prevents your nails from staining), then a coat of your best red.
Randomly place dabs of white on top of the red. I usually just use the regular nail polish brush, but you could also use a toothpick or dotting tool.
Using a thinner brush, pen, or toothpick, outline the white to transform the random spots into leopard print! It usually takes me 2-3 short lines around the white to get the desired look, but it's totally up to you.
Finish up with your top coat and you're good to go!
Its always good to hear when companies like Out of Print work towards a worthy cause. Out of Print celebrates that idea by donating a book to a community in need for every shirt bought. It’s hard to believe that there are still some places out there, especially in parts of Africa, that have no access to books, and they’re here to change that.

Out of Print gathers all the world’s best stories through fashion. They take all your classroom favorites and put them on soft-vintagey cotton tees, that may or may not take you back to those days of reading such novels as: To Kill A Mockingbird, The Outsiders, 1984, and many more.

Local electronic powerhouse MYTHS has been a favourite of mine since I first saw them back in May, so when I heard they were transforming their amazing debut self titled LP into an opera I froze mid air in excitement.
The stage was decorated with the elaborate paper art of member Lief Hall, white antler like branches and an array of shredded fabrics oh so a la MYTHS. The feeling was already set as it was clear this production much like in MYTHS fashion was complete DIY, from the projections to the costuming everything carefully thought out and organized.

The performance opened as two talented contemporary dancers graced the stage, as kaliedoscopic nebulae were projected behind. Then, like two goddesses adorned in light, Lief Hall and Quinne Rogers stepped out and chanted the most beautiful and harmonious version of The Horizon , which led the projections to lead into fantastic mirrored landscapes as if these spacial goddesses were creating a universe of their own through ancient spells. Two very young girls also graced the stage for the performance, who did an amazing job embodying the dark electronica through spastic dance moves, and ritual performance.

As the opera progressed the visuals and dancing became more intense and elaborate, also prompting a live noise improvisation with the aid of hand held radios, one of the highlights of this magnificent show. As the visuals became more intense and moved from landscapes to cityscapes so did the electro cacophony, Goldbase had hall techno-krumping while flanked by spastic children and ballet-esque dancing all while being engulfed by strobe light. It was clear it took a lot of effort from the audience not to jump up and start dancing as well. In the end I dub the night a booming success, a break from a normal show and offering a creative and thrilling way of playing their music. MYTHS proved once again how meticulously creative with every aspect of performance they have been known for, and I hope The Golden Dawn has a comeback show!
