If you’ve ever strolled past a Lee’s Donuts shop and caught sight of a cheerful, frosting-covered face waving you in, you’ve already met Johnny Glaze — their sugary-smooth mascot with a heart as warm as a fresh batch of honey dip donuts. With his signature glazed smile and a personality that’s 100% sweet (but not overly sweet), Johnny isn’t just a donut — he’s the embodiment of everything Lee’s Donuts stands for: fresh and friendly with a whole lot of flavor. Whether he’s popping up at community events or starring in their latest social posts, Johnny brings a sprinkle of warmth and fun to your daily donut run.

Recently, Johnny started working at Plenty Metrotown where he’s trading glaze for gaze as a retail associate. While his roots are in rising dough, Johnny’s heart has always been set on rising trends. With his eye for style and naturally sweet demeanor, he’s finding fresh ways to express himself — pairing cuffed denim with donut-box pastels and serving looks as fresh as his old bakery batches. Whether helping guests find the perfect fit or mixing textures like a pro, Johnny’s proving that fashion and frosting make a surprisingly chic combo.

We spent the morning with Johnny to hear more about his experience as the newest employee at Metrotown, read below.

Q&A with Johnny Glaze

Q: Johnny, you're a donut—how did you go from being glazed to being employed? What drew you to working at Plenty?

A: From the fryer to the fire, baby! That's my story. Most days I'm doing my silent routine...the whole mime thing, you know? But when PLENTY came calling? I said to myself, "Johnny, it’s time." Their clothing shop is legendary, and my donuts are delicious. At that point, I couldn’t ignore my thoughts.

Q: Do you have a morning routine, or do you just roll out of bed glazed and ready?

A: My morning routine’s pretty sweet. I hit the floor running... or rather, rolling. I rise early like the bakers to get my glaze looking fresh and practice my dance moves in front of my mirror. My current go to track is Michael Jackson’s, ‘Don’t Stop ’Til You Get Enough’.

Q: How would you describe your personal style? Classic glaze, jelly-core streetwear, or powdered chic?

A: My style is definitely that classic glazed-and-confused look. I may not say much, but my style and colours speak volumes. And I only know one volume: loud.

Q: What’s your go-to wardrobe essential that pairs best with... well, you?

A: Every now-and-then I’ll throw on some donut bling like sprinkles or sugar crystals for that special occasion.

Q: As a retail associate, how do you sprinkle joy into customer interactions?

A: Let’s just say, I’ve got a silent-but-sweet approach with customers. I’m a master at the art of communication. Actually, a lot of people don’t know this, but I’ve got my Masters of Arts in Communication. My final thesis was on how joy can be spread through dance moves, enthusiastic high-fives and free donuts.

Q: If you could stock one donut-inspired item in Plenty’s inventory, what would it be?

A: Hmm, that’s a good one. I’d say round donut-shaped tote bags. Perfect for carrying home fresh treats from our pop-up! I express everything through action and not words so I think fashion should speak for itself too. Plus, who doesn't need more circular accessories in their life?
