For Lucy Yun, creativity is about more than making something visually striking. Through her multidisciplinary creative practice, she brings together art direction, styling, production, design, and storytelling to create experiences that feel meaningful and connected.

We caught up with Lucy as she prepared to shoot a campaign for Granville Island Brewing, to chat about building a creative practice on her own terms and the connections that have shaped her journey.

Q: How would you describe what you do in one sentence, without using your job title?

A: I help people and brands translate emotions, stories, and ideas into visual experiences that feel meaningful and memorable.

Q: What’s something you’ve learned about building a creative practice over time?

A: That creativity isn’t only about inspiration. A sustainable creative practice is built through consistency, curiosity, and learning how to trust yourself even during quieter seasons. I used to think every project had to be bigger and more impressive, but over time I’ve realized meaningful work often comes from staying connected to people, emotions, and everyday observations.

Q: What does your personal style say about you right now?

A: Right now, my style feels more grounded and intentional than before. I still love bold colours and playful details, but I’m also drawn to pieces that feel effortless and versatile. I think it reflects where I am in life, becoming more comfortable with myself and less interested in dressing for expectations or trends.

Q: Looking back, what feels like the most unexpected part of your journey so far?

A: Honestly, the people. I never expected creativity to connect me with such a wide range of individuals and communities across different industries and cultures. Some of the projects I’m most proud of came from genuine relationships, trust, and shared energy rather than carefully planned opportunities. That human connection has probably been the most rewarding and unexpected part of the journey.
